How I Secured my First 5 Figure Contract

“That one moment where I chose the loyalty to myself and remembered my power is the reason why I am able to live comfortably from my art.”

My first big contract literally fell into my lap.

It was the October 2020, I was working at a salon and spa as a newly licensed esthetician. because of the pandemic, we had barely any clients and I was determined that this was my ticket out from behind the camera. Skincare is for sure one of my passions. It was at this moment I believed this was my next step.

Photography had always been my saving grace. hell, it helped my pay my way through esthetician school. It helped me find direction when I struggled to find work after college. Photography had granted me entry into rooms I doubt I would have ever found myself.

For most of us, the year 2020 was tough. My entire world was rattled. My connection to photography was made because of love and this had become fused with my identity. I felt like I lost everything. I was scared and trying to hold on to everything I had worked for. A failed love & work relationship is a dangerous thing. It is scary to watch someone want to share everything with you and then try to take everything from you.

This experience reminded me of my power. I allowed myself to be influenced by others. I allowed my spirit to absorb things I appreciated about their character. I allowed myself to changer the better. The work I had put in over 3 years time was nothing that anyone could take from me.

It was at this moment I realized I had to fight for my own career.

I called the mutual client I shared with my failed romance. I wanted them to know we are not a package deal and this is not a relationship I was looking to sever. A woman scorned birthed a great ember of tenacity and fearlessness that has kept e advocating for myself ever since. It was one phone call that I made in fear that changed my life for good.

The client requested I send a salary proposal to assist him in producing and editing content for an app. After I did some thinking, I submitted my proposal and we agreed to $50,000/year.

That one moment where I chose the loyalty to myself and remembered my power is the reason why I am able to live comfortably from my art. This one move removed the stress of being a gig to gig creative and granted me the financial stability I had feared for so many year.

As creatives, we will also come to a place where we will have to pitch ourselves and our skills. I want yay to be ready. Our Beginner Photography and Video Editing course will give you everything you need to get started as a content creator.
